University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Karl Oyri sings the blues!

Faculty members at the University of Ontario, Institute of Technology, graciously provided an interactive pre-conference workshop about the use of human simulations as a learning experience for Millenial nursing students. We were able to actively engage in simulation case studies while marveling at the unique human simulators. The manequins actually "breathe" and may experience adventitious breath sounds. Students came in from their summer vacation to demonstrate the hands-on use of the manequins living in the state-of-the-art simulation lab. These students shared their creative learning experiences in the simulation lab. The "high-touch - high-tech" learning environment is supported by Jean Watson's theory of human caring. The caring philosophy is a thread that is stitched throughout the learning curriculum at school of health sciences. It was a very enjoyable day! The faculty were great hosts and we were able to share stories about teaching and learning while using technology as a wonderful tool!
